Four judges of the High Court were appointed judges to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday, raising the number of judges in the Appellate Division to eight.
The newly appointed judges are Justice Borhan Uddin, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Krishna Debnath.
President Md Abdul Hamid made the appointment under Article 95(1) of the constitution, Law Minister Anisul Huq said.
Three of the new judges– Justice Borhan Uddin, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, and Justice Krishna Debnath– were sworn in this morning.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique at the Judges’ Lounge of the Supreme Court in presence of other judges of the apex court and the HC Division.
Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan is currently ill and hospitalised, therefore, he would sworn in later.
